Prescriptive Design for Learning

Prescriptive design methods may be best when introducing students to designing.

This needs to be fleshed out.

  • Design is complex.
  • Students have virtually no experience to ground their designing.
  • Giving students liberty to design as they wish sets them adrift in the complexity.
  • Start students with a high-structured design process.
  • Then get them to reflect on the process.
  • Then introduce variations, giving students choices.
  • Eventually, at a mature level, students can be turned loose.
