# Assignment 8

1. Visualisation Exercise 3.
2. For Figure 5.122, items (7) and (12), on page 294, sketch the developments of the shapes shown.
Do not re-draw the isometric itself from the text.
Mark the shape that is the base (bottom face) with the word “BASE”.
• NOTE: A development is considered a proper drawing, so remember to follow the drawing rules.
3. Figure 11.69, page 629, use solidworks to create a set of working drawings, using section views and auxiliary views as appropriate.
• You may put more than one part on each page, so long as the drawings are nicely arranged and clearly legible.
• Dimension all drawings.
• For the 5/8“ socket head shoulder screw, the bushing, and the hole in the left plate, calculate the tightest fit and maximum clearance given the tolerances specified.
• Assume all tolerance calculations are on a hole basis.
• Submit the tolerance calculations on a separate page, which can be lined and on which you must use indelible ink.
• Corrections:
• The thickness of the washer is not given. Use any reasonable dimension based on a visual inspection of the washer's proportions compared to other parts.
• Assume the bushing is an “off the shelf” part.
• The O.D. of the WHEEL HUB WIDTH should be 1.00”, not 0.75“ as given in the textbook.

For extra practice:

1. For Figure 5.122, items (1), (2), and (8), on page 294, sketch the developments of the shapes shown.

2. Figure 11.73, page 637-639, use solidworks to create a set of working drawings, using section views and auxiliary views as appropriate.
• You may put more than one part on each page, so long as the drawings are nicely arranged and clearly legible.
• Construction lines are not required.
• Fully dimension all the parts.
• Part drawings for the bolts and the spring are not necessary, but their location on the assembly drawings and their details in the bill of materials must be present.
• Note the following corrections:
• For the Part Valve Top the chamfer is 3mm in size.
• The BOM lists 3 parts of type Weld Ring and 2 parts of type Weld Ring 2. However, the assembly has only 2 of the former and 1 of the latter. Consider this a “bug” in the BOM as given in the textbook.
