Assessing Human Factor Demands and Capabilities

These tools and methods were developed by Erica Attard with funding from Ryerson's Learning and Teaching Office.

The following list of tools and methods are for use by students in determining HF demands and capabilities. Each document is “self-contained”, including a description of the tool/method and examples and links to further information.

Vision
This document explains how to assess and rate visual demands and capabilities of users.
Hearing
This document explains how to assess and rate aural/hearing demands and capabilities of users.
Strength
This document explains how to assess and rate strength demands and capabilities of users. Three different methods are presented, depending on the nature and extent of the forces and actions expected.
Specific information for determining inputs when using Method 2.
A percentile calculator for Method 3 is available as an Excel Spreadsheet.
Exclusion Calculator
This is an instructional document to explain how to use the Cambridge Exclusion Calculator, which can be used for a variety of human factors, especially those for which specific information is not provided above.
